Earth Charter International began as a United Nations Initiative and has since grown into an international development organization. The overarching goal of Earth Charter Initiative is to create a sustainable world that can be passed for future generations. Earth Charter Initiative achieves this by outreach to youths and training in sustainable living and the importance of preserving the environment. It also supports numerous NGOS in countries such as Mexico working to achieve such goals.
Founded 21 years ago, following the signing of NAFTA, CEMDA is a nonprofit NGO working for environmental defense in Mexico. CEMDA has offices in 5 different regions of Mexico. CEMDA works on the local, state, national and even international level. In addition CEMDA works in both urban and rural settings. CEMDA also trains local leaders on the importance of certain initiatives.

La Comisión Nacional Forestal, creada por decreto presidencial el 4 de abril del 2001, es un Organismo Público Descentralizado cuyo objetivo es desarrollar, favorecer e impulsar las actividades productivas, de conservación y restauración en materia forestal, así como participar en la formulación de los planes, programas, y en la aplicación de la política de desarrollo forestal sustentable. La Comisión Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas (CONANP) inició actividades el 5 de junio del 2000, como órgano desconcentrado de la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (SEMARNAT), encargado de la administración de las Áreas Naturales Protegidas.
La Comisión Nacional para el Conocimiento y Uso de la Biodiversidad (CONABIO) es una comisión intersecretarial, creada en 1992 con carácter de permanente. El Presidente de la Comisión es el titular del Ejecutivo Federal, C. Enrique Peña Nieto. El Secretario Técnico es el titular de la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Semarnat), C. Juan José Guerra Abud y participan los titulares de nueve secretarías más: Agricultura, Ganadería, Desarrollo Rural, Pesca y Alimentación (Sagarpa), Desarrollo Social (Sedesol), Economía (SE), Educación Pública (SEP), Energía (Sener), Hacienda y Crédito Público (SHCP), Relaciones Exteriores (SRE), Salud (SSA) y Turismo (Sectur). La CONABIO desempeña sus funciones mediante un grupo operativo que desde su creación ha estado encabezado por el Dr. José Sarukhán Kermez, como Coordinador Nacional

The Forest Carbon Partnership Facility is an international organization which operates in 47 different countries around the globe. One of those countries is Mexico. The FCPF has four different strategic goals they are: 1. To assist countries in their REDD+ efforts by providing them with financial and technical assistance in building their capacity to benefit from possible future systems of positive incentives for REDD+ 2. To pilot a performance-based payment system for REDD+ activities, with a view to ensuring equitable benefit sharing and promoting future large-scale positive incentives for REDD+. 3. Within the approach to REDD+, to test ways to sustain or enhance livelihoods of local communities and to conserve biodiversity. 4. To disseminate broadly the knowledge gained in the development of the Facility and the implementation of Readiness Preparation Proposals (RPPs) and Emission Reductions Programs (ERPs). The Facility maintains two different funds, the Carbon Fund and the Readiness Fund to help fulfill their goals. The facility is heavily involved in REDD+ efforts and anyone wishing for help or involvement tin these sectors should contact the facility.
The Foundation is a non-profit that was incorporated as a civil association under Mexican Law in 1994. The foundation is based on the idea that the preservation of biodiversity in Mexico is the responsibility of all sectors and all sectors must come together to work on this issue. The projects the foundations work on include, conserving costal life and marine reefs and working to prevent destructive wildfires and forest fires. In 2003 the Foundation started the Hot Pot project which provides rural communities with a clean and renewable device that is an alternative to firewood. The Foundation brings all sectors together to promote biodiversity and conservation.

The Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force (GCF) is a unique subnational collaboration between 29 states and provinces from Brazil, Indonesia, Ivory Coast, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Spain, and the United States. The GCF seeks to advance jurisdictional programs designed to promote low emissions rural development and reduced emissions from deforestation and land use (REDD+) and link these activities with emerging greenhouse gas (GHG) compliance regimes and other pay-for-performance opportunities. More than 25% of the world’s tropical forests are in GCF states and provinces, including more than 75% of Brazil’s and more than half of Indonesia’s. The GCF includes states and provinces that are leading the way in building comprehensive, jurisdiction-wide approaches to low emissions development and REDD+ as well as the only jurisdiction in the world (California) that is considering provisions that would recognize offsets from REDD+ as part of its GHG compliance system.

PROFEPA is a apart of SEMARNAT (the Minsitry of Environment and Natural Resources). PROFEPA is charged with enforcing and promoting compliance with various environmental laws in Mexico. PROFEPA works with local governments to help provide them with more resources to combat environmental crime. Furthermore, PROFEPA is involved in REDD+ hoping to create monitoring committees to insure the success of these programs.

The Global Canopy Programme was founded in Oxford, UK with the goal of preventing deforestation and preserving the forests for future generations. Today the Global Canopy Programme funds numerous initiatives around the globe to combat deforestation. The Programme trains individuals in key countries on preventing deforestation in their countries. The Programme also runs thereddesk.org which allows countries, including Mexico, to view the deforestation efforts in their homeland and connect with partners working on the same issue.
